Spain to suffer from Iran sanctions: Spanish ambassador
TEHRAN, Feb. 8 (MNA) – New Spanish Ambassador to Tehran Pedro Antonio Villena Perez said that sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic will take their toll on Madrid more than any other European Union member states.
Perez made the remark during a meeting with the chairman of the Iranian Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, in Tehran on Tuesday.
Madrid is not among those countries which support the sanctions imposed on Iran by the EU, he said, adding that Spain has always supported the continuation of talks which would definitely help resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.
Ambassador Villena also expressed hope that problems between the Islamic Republic and the EU would be settled through dialogue and diplomacy.
The EU formally imposed an oil embargo on Iran and agreed to a freeze on the assets of the Central Bank of Iran on January 23, but existing contracts will be honored until July 1.
