Syria must be given enough time to implement reforms : Iran`s foreign minister

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, Jan. 31 (MNA) -- In reply to a question about Tehran’s stance toward the developments occurring in Syria, the Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi said, “Our stance in this regard is completely transparent and clear, and we have always mentioned it. (Syrian President) Bashar al-Assad has promised to hold a referendum on the constitution” and to allow different political parties to carry out their activities in the country freely. “However, the question is why certain countries are trying to prevent the implementation of the reforms and do not give them (the Syrian officials) enough time,” he added. Salehi also said, “We should give Syria time to carry out reforms by itself. If an unexpected incident takes place in Syria, no one can predict its repercussions. Such an incident may create conflicts among the people. We should give the Syrian people and government time to implement the reforms themselves.”
