Tanzania VP urges reforms in UN structures
Tehran, Aug 31, IRNA – Vice President of Tanzania Mohamed Gharib Bilal stressed the need for making reforms in the structure of the United Nations and the Security Council so that they could establish sustainable peace in world.
He made the remarks Thursday evening while addressing the 16th Non-Aligned Movement Summit.
He further noted that sustainable peace is the most urgent need of the today world.
The VP said the main objective of the establishment of the United Nations was to establish peace and security in the world whereas the world is now witnessing the lack of enough political will to materialize the goal.
He said the issue of making amendments in the structure of the United Nations will be raised once more in the upcoming meeting of the United Nations General Assembly so the NAM members are duty-bound to actively pursue the issue.
The Tanzanian official said the NAM member states have to abandon divergences because it is high time that all world countries work for peace.
The 16th NAM Summit opened Thursday morning with the inaugural speech of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran.
The leaders of NAM member-states resumed discussions on international and regional topics this morning.
