Ts.Oyungerel MP meets US Ambassador

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Member of the State Great Khural Ts.Oyungerel Thursday met Ms Jennifer Zimdahl Galt, the US Ambassador to Mongolia upon the latter’s request. Ms Galt inquired about amendments to the laws on elections and on combating domestic violence and the present developments. The parliamentarian briefed about the amendment to the election law which enables the country carry out upcoming parliamentary elections in 76 constituencies through only majoritarian voting system. In accordance with this amendment, women’s quota at parliament is reduced by 20 per cent, which hampers chances for women to become MPs, she stressed. The dignitaries exchanged views on the law on crime and other relevant laws that will enter into force on September 1, 2016 as well as issues of combating domestic violence. Ms Galt also clarified about the present condition of B.Bulgan, widow of prominent state figure late S.Zorig, who is detained for several months. She expressed worries about her due to a decision of prolonging the detention term. Lawmaker Oyungerel said she will pay attention to make certain that her civil rights are safeguarded.
