Tunisia praises Iran’s stance on its revolution
ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 31 (MNA) – Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem appropriated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s stance toward the Tunisian revolution and emphasized the need to expand relations with Muslim states in light of the revolution.
Abdessalem made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi which was held on the sidelines of the 18th Ordinary Session of the Summit of the African Union in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa late on Sunday.
In the meeting, the two sides discussed various issues concerning bilateral relations and emphasized the necessity to establish joint economic commissions and promote trade interactions between the Iranian and Tunisian nations.
Salehi also congratulated Abdessalem on the anniversary of the Tunisian revolution describing it as the trigger of the Islamic Awakening wave in the region.
He said that given the important developments unfolding in the region, Tehran-Tunis ties are of high importance and the two countries should promote ties in all spheres.
He went on to say that the Islamic Republic is keen to help Tunisia develop in all areas.
Salehi also met with Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, Bhutanese Foreign Minister Ugyen Tshering, and a number of other African countries’ officials.
