UAE attends ceremony for launch of phase II of Regional Programme for Arab States to Combat Crime, Terrorism and Health Threats

CAIRO, 10th May, 2016 (WAM) – The UAE has attended a ceremony held yesterday at the Arab League's Secretariat-General in Cairo to launch the second phase of the "Regional Programme for the Arab States to Combat Crime, Terrorism and Health Threats and Strengthen Criminal Justice Systems and Crime Prevention in Line with International Standards on Human Rights (2016-2021)". Dr. Nabil Al Araby, Arab League's Secretary-General, Yury Fedotov, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and representatives of Arab League member states, attended the ceremony. Hani bin Huwaiden, In-Charge of the UAE Permanent Mission to the Arab League, represented the UAE at the event. In his opening address to the audience, Dr. Araby affirmed the pan-Arab body's support for any effort by member states aimed at implementing international conventions and treaties to combat crime, terrorism and health threats, and strengthen criminal justice systems and crime prevention. He said that experts from the Arab League and the Vienna-based UNODC had designed three sub-programmes of action to combat illicit trafficking, organised crime and terrorism, strengthen criminal justice and integrity, and prevention of drug abuse. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395295275107.html
