U.S., EU have no evidence against Iran shipping firm

TEHRAN, Feb. 28 (MNA) - The U.S. and the European Union have no evidence to prove that the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) is involved in illegal activities, the IRISL managing director Majid Dajmar told on Monday. In May 2011, the EU extended its sanctions adding more than 100 new entities to a list of companies and people affected, including subsidiaries of IRISL, that are already targeted under previous measures. Sanctions have resulted in several IRISL vessels being temporarily seized in foreign ports in recent months. Loss of business due to sanctions pushed Johnson Stevens Agencies Ltd, the UK's leading British ship line agent that previously represented IRISL, into administration.
