Iran has highest rate of blood donation in region

TEHRAN, Nov. 30(MNA) -- Iran has the highest rate of blood donation in the Middle East region, according to the former managing director of the Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization. “In 2010, more than 2.5 million Iranians went to blood banks to donate their blood, but 22 percent of them were rejected, and finally 1.9 million were deemed eligible to donate their blood,” Dr. Hassan Abolghasemi said in Tehran on Wednesday. In June 2011, Abolghasemi stated, “In more than 70 countries in the world, the rate of blood donation is less than 1 percent of the population. This means that they are not able to meet their basic requirements for blood. In Iran, more than 2.5 percent of the people donate their blood. Therefore, there isn’t any shortage of blood and blood products in Iran.”
