Change to QMMF Statute Garners Strong Praise
Doha, November 04 (QNA) - Motor sports officials praised Sunday the new statutes of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) adopted by HE Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, which aims to empower young people and develop their ability to choose a new board of directors through a general assembly.
Now member clubs can vote for the new board. The new statute said that the current board, chaired by Abdulrahman Al Mannai, will prepare for holding the elections within three months.
In a press conference held today, Al Mannai said that he was looking to change the statute ever since he presided over the federation. He stressed on the importance of having a legal basis and an official umbrella that all parties involved in the sport can committee.
He added that the decision will also enhance the independence of the federation, similar to other sports association. It will also empower youth who can now also contribute to managing the federation and its member clubs, he added.
Speaking to Qatar New Agency, Al Mannai said that the upcoming elections will be the first ever held to choose a new board for QMMF. He also said that the amendments were very well received by the international federations for auto and for motorcycle.
For his part, President of Qatar Sports for all Federation Abdulrahman Al Dosari said that decision to establish a general assembly like in all other federations will turn Qatar into one of the leading and highly-innovative countries in the region in the sports field. He paid tribute to the current board for their attempt to change the statute, saying it reflected their commitment to develop the sports regardless of where personal interests where.
He revealed that the federation, in talks with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, expressed its desire to change the statute in order to give youth more power in the decision making process by holding a general assembly. Al Dosari told QNA that the ministry adopted the amendments after studying them carefully from a legal standpoint, to ensure it was in line with the sports law no. 1 of 2016 issued by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani which said that a general assembly would be the authority for choosing new boards.
The President of the Qatar Sports Federation for All said that the ministry supported the initiative of QMMF because it was in line with the strategy of the Ministry in terms of empowering young people, considering that the presence of the General Assembly will enhance their participation in the decision-making process.
There needs to be a minimum of three clubs in the general assembly in order to hold elections, which Al Dosari said with Al Sadd, Mawater Center, Qatar SC, and Losail circuit. He noted that the Ministry will oversee the elections in order to ensure the soundness of all legal measures taken.
For his part, Vice Chairman of Losail Circuit Sports Club Khalid Al Rumaihi said that having a general assembly will promote the federation's independence and will encourage youth to play a bigger role in the decision-making process. He added during his remarks in the press conference that the new system paves the way for more clubs to join the general assembly in the future, thanking QMMF for the move they made especially that it will enhance the youth's capabilities.
Director of Mawater Center Salem Al Mohannadi thanked the Ministry of Culture and Sports for its continuous support. He also extended his thanks to QMMF for the amendments that were made with the goal of empowering youth.
Batabit Center director Mohammed Ghanem Al Kubaisi said that the new statute will help develop the sport. He thanked the Ministry of Culture and Sports and QMMF for their great efforts and for taking what he said was an important step. (QNA)
