Generation Amazing Coaches Support Flood Relief Efforts in Kerala

Doha, September 16 (QNA) -Generation Amazing ambassadors have been helping to support the disaster relief efforts in Kerala, India, after the area was devastated recently by severe flooding. Earlier in the summer, Kerala was hit by unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. It was the worst flooding in the region for nearly a century and has caused more than 445 deaths and displaced almost 300,000 people. SC Senior Advisor, Mushtaq Al Wali, said of the efforts: "During this difficult time for their community, were proud that Sadique and Najih are putting the skills and values they learned through Generation Amazing to good use and leading by example." He continued: "Our programme leaves a human legacy not only after 2022, but also in the lead up to the tournament and at times of most need. Our outstanding ambassadors are proof that our train the trainer model ensures the long-term sustainability and impact of Generation Amazing in Qatar and across Asia." Generation Amazing worker ambassadors Sadique Rahman and Najih Karangahan visited Kerala their home state this summer. They quickly got involved with the relief effort by coordinating the distribution of vital supplies, including food and blankets. The pair also supported waste management operations. Rahman said he and Karangahan used the leadership skills they had learned during Generation Amazing training sessions in Qatar to support the relief efforts. The pairs were invited to attend Generation Amazing modules before progressing to become coaches themselves, and recently attended the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia for further leadership training. "We were keen to do anything we could to help those worst affected by the floods," said Rahman, who has been with the programme since it started in Qatar in 2016. "Generation Amazing teaches you the skills you need to help people in these kinds of situations. Being a part of the programme gave us the confidence to lead from the front and ensure the aid got to those in need as quickly as possible." Karangahan said the pairs were committed to sharing the skills they learned with their home communities, both in Qatar and Kerala. "Generation Amazing teaches you how to pass on the knowledge you gain and that's something we have been trying to do over the past few weeks," said Karangahan. "We are proud to be Generation Amazing coaches and ambassadors, and see it as our mission to share all the positive impacts of this programme with others." Established during Qatars bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Generation Amazing is the SCs flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. "We are proud to be Generation Amazing coaches and ambassadors, and see it as our mission to share all the positive impacts of this programme with others." It is delivered via three key modules: inclusive, healthy and green. Participants learn leadership and social skills through football, and are encouraged to share those skills with members of their home communities. Generation Amazing delivers the football for development programme in six locations across India, including Mumbai, Bangalore, Nagpur, Hutup, Kolkata and Rurka Kalan. In addition, Generation Amazing workers ambassadors based in Doha have been taking the programme back to their communities across India, including in Kerala, working with school children and youth with disabilities in three locations.
