Godolphin wins Dubai World Cup

Dubai, April 1, 2012 (WAM) - Godolphin's Monterosso has made history yesterday when it won the 17th Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race, at Meydan Racetrack.
Monterosso's jockey Mickael Barzalona stood high in the saddle with his arm even higher as Monterosso hit the line well clear of stablemate Capponi giving His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin stable the top two finishers in the world's richest race Flood of warm congratulations poured on Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on the historic victory the UAE horses have made.
President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in a telephone call congratulated His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on the victory of Godolphin's Monterosso of the US$10 million Dubai World Cup staged at Meydan Racetrack yesterday.
Sheikh Mohammed received the gold cup from H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, and dedicated the victory to the UAE President and people.
Sheikh Mohammed told the local and international media that he is glad and proud of the winning the UAE horses have made at the world's most prominent racetrack and before eyes of more than 60,000 fans. ''It's a night of joy which we lived along with more than 63,000 fans at Meydan Racetrack in addition to tens of millions of viewers over TV screens which is a source of proud for us and for the UAE people,'' Sheikh Mohammed said. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
