Malaysian Duo Gavin, Leong Fail To Make Their Mark In 2018 World Cup Of Golf
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) – Malaysian duo – Gavin Kyle Green and Ben Leong failed to keep up their good performance after slipping seven rungs to wrap up their campaign in 22nd place in the 2018 World Cup of Golf which concluded in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday.
They closed with a disappointing 74 in the final round (foursomes) for a four-day total of six-under-par 282 in the competition held at Metropolitan Golf Club in South Oakleigh. They earned US$58,000 (RM243,281) for their feat, according to the tournament's website;www.worldcupofgolf.com.
The result saw the pair emulating the feat by Danny Chia and Nicholas Fung who finished in the same position in the 2006 edition which was also held at the same venue.
Overnight leaders Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry lifted the first title for Belgium after cruising to a three-shot victory ahead of their nearest challengers, Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith of Australia.
Pieters and Detry posted a 68 in today's round for a four-day total of 23-under-par 265 and pocketed a winning prize of US$2.240 million (RM9.395 million).
