Malaysian Mixed Doubles Advances Into Last Eight In New Zealand Open
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (Bernama) – National mixed doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying continued their impressive form by cruising into the quarter-finals in the New Zealand Open Badminton Tournament in Auckland, New Zealand, Thursday.
The eighth seeded pair defeated Shivam Sharma-Poorvisha S. Ram of India;winning in 21-16 and 21-14 in the second round in the tournament held at North Shore Events Centre, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfbadminton.com.
Peng Soon, then, teamed up with Chen Tang Jie in the men’s doubles by stunning the sixth seeds, Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pangkaryanira-Ade Yusuf Santoso of Indonesia;21-19 and 22-20.
National women’s doubles pair, Goh Yea Ching-Vivian Hoo Kah Mun however, crashed out from the competition after losing 19-21 and 17-21 to the Japanese pair, Arisa Higashino-Kie Nakanishi.
Malaysia’s interest in the men’s singles also fizzled out after the only player left standing, Liew Daren who is former international was beaten by the third seed, B. Sai Praneeth of India;losing 18-21 and 17-21.
