Malaysian Pair Assure Medal Finish In World Championships
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) – Malaysia are guaranteed at least a bronze medal bronze in the 2018 Men's Bowling World Championships after Tun Ameerul Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam and Adrian Ang secured third place after the completion of preliminary round in the doubles event of the tournament in Hong Kong, on Wednesday.
Tun Ameerul, the 2016 World Youth Doubles silver medallist and Ang, 2017 KL SEA Games double silver medallist, topped the second squad, yesterday after knocking down 2,596 pins.
Two American duo – Ej Tackett-Andrew Anderson and Jakob Butturff-Kyle Troup claimed the top spot and fourth position after knocking down 2,756 pins and 2,549 pins, respectively, according to the tournament's website;www.2018wmc.worldbowling.org.
Canadian pair of Dan MacLelland and Francois Lavoie came in second spot out of 132 pairs after amassing 2,666 pinfalls.
Another Malaysian pair, Timmy Tan and Muhammad Rafiq Ismail failed to make the cut after finishing in 16th place with 2,459 pinfalls.Only the top four pairs will advanced into the semi-finals.
Prior to this, Muhammad Rafiq qualified to the semi-finals after finishing in third place in the preliminary round of singles event.The semi-finals and final match of the singles event would take place on Saturday.
The tournament will continue with the preliminary round of trios event, tomorrow and Friday.
