Nurasilah Wins Big At The Dance World Cup 2018 In Spain
KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia) 5 July (Bernama) -- A petite dancer from the Tagap Dance Theatre Nurasilah Adibah Abdul Rashid did not expect her second participation in the Dance World Cup competition at Sitges, Barcelona Spain last month to be a most valuable experience.
The 14-year-old was honoured with the Most Outstanding Solo National Award in addition to bringing home a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal.
“I was speechless and did not expect to bag the award as the competition was fierce,” she told the press on her arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, here Wednesday.
The Sekolah Menengah Maktab Sabah student won Gold for the 'Children Solo National Folklore' category, Silver for 'Junior Small Group National Folklore' category and Bronze for 'Junior Small Group Hip Hop'.
The youngest of four siblings admitted that it was not easy for her to feel the dance tune during the competition, although she has been dancing actively since she was nine.
“Alhamdulillah (All praise be to Allah), with the help of the choreographer, I managed to perform well,” she said.
Nurasilah also participated in last year’s tournament held in Germany but did not win any medal.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Contingent and the Tagap Dance Theatre choreographer, Mohd Azizan Danial, 24, felt proud that the Malaysian team won sixth place out of 46 participating countries, and managed to bag six Gold, three Silver and two Bronze medals.
There were 21 categories in the competition including Classical Ballet, Street/Hip Hop and National Folklore.
He said the team’s other dancers were from SK Pekan Kiulu, SJKC St James, Likas, Tobilong Sabah Bersatu Association (TOBISA-Windbreeze) and The Kookie Family who won the ‘Most Outstanding Group’ award.
“We have 64 participants including one from Putrajaya competition, and the Tagap Dance Theatre only sent 15 participants,” he added.
The annual competition took place on June 22 to 30 and was won by Spain, while England was the runner-up and Portugal was in third place.
