One Silver For M'sia On Sixth Day Of ASIAD 2018
JAKARTA, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent ended its sixth day at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia, with only a silver medal.
The medal was contributed by Shalin Zulkifli, Sin Li Jane, Esther Cheah, Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman and Natasha Roslan in the women's team event with 8,149 pinfalls at the Jakabaring Sport City Bowling Centre in Palembang.
That takes the national contingent's current tally to 1 gold, four silver and one bronze.
Malaysia had won the gold in the women's trio bowling event, silver in the Equestrian, men's trio bowling and sepak takraw events as well as the bronze through Taekwondo athlete Yap Khim Wen in the women's Poomsae event.
The men's football squad's dream of advancing to the quarter-finals was dashed after losing 0-1 to Japan in the round of 16 at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi, West Java.
On Aug 17, the Under-23 squad (U-23) pulled off a shocking 2-1 victory over defending champions South Korea 2-1 in the group stage.
In the meantime, overall defending champions China continue to extend their lead at the top of the medal chart with 66 gold, 46 silver and 27 bronze, followed by Japan (29-31-42) and South Korea in third (23-26-28).
The sixth day of the competition also saw a new Asian record created by the Chinese in the men's 4x100m medley event with a time of 3 minutes 29.99 seconds at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Centre.
Seven new Asian Games records were also created in archery (one), shooting (two) and swimming (four).
The Malaysian contingent will continue its medal hunt in several events on the seventh day of the competition Saturday, including tenpin bowling, karate, pencak silat, archery and squash.
