Qatar's Barshim Sets New Record for High Jump in Diamond League This Year
Doha, May 04 (QNA) - Qatari Olympic and world high jump champion Mutaz Barshim set Friday a new record for the athletics championship after jumping 2.40 meters high during the Doha round of the Diamond League.
Barshim won the first place of the high jump competition and succeeded in achieving the best leap of the year, surpassing the number recorded in the last world championship in London (2.35 meters). Barshim's personal record is 2.42, which is a great start for the world champion and title holder Diamond League last year.
Second place in the competition was Majd Eddin Ghazal with a distance of 2.33 meters, and the third player Donald Thomas was a distance of 2.30 meters.
The Qatari star Mutaz Barshim had won last year in all rounds of the Diamond League and was chosen as the best athlete in 2017 athletics. Barshim said afterwards that he was very happy that he has started his 2018 season with a strong record and a new record for all his fans in Qatar and internationally who attended the Qatar Sports Club.
The Qatari champion added that he will continue to win the title this year and will participate in the American, Monaco and Lausanne tournaments this season. He may also take part in some tournaments such as Oslo and Brussels and then participate in the 2018 Asian Championships in Jakarta on August 28. (QNA)
