Sports planning symposium set

Manama, Oct. 31 (BNA): Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC)’s Olympic Academy is organizing a symposium on Sports Planning on November 7 for general secretaries and head of competitions committees. This activity is part of the academy’s annual plan in an attempt to develop national competencies of different sports clubs, national sports federations and other sports-related authorities in Bahrain. World renowned coaching educator and applied sport scientist Istvan Balyi will be presenting the symposium. From 1994 he had been the resident sport scientist of the National Coaching Institute British Columbia at the University of Victoria, Canada. He was an advisor on Long-Term Athlete Development and high performance planning in 22 different countries, including Bahrain, since 2005. He has worked with 17 Canadian National Teams as high performance advisor for Major Games, including Athletics (middle distance), Alpine Skiing, Freestyle Skiing, Water Skiing, Men’s Football, Men’s and Women’s Water Polo, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Whitewater Kayak, Short Track Speed skating and others. Head of the Training and Development Department at the Olympic Academy Mahmoud Yatim said Sports Planning symposium is part of the Academy's continuous commitment to organising various similar activities that contribute to enhancing the capabilities of technical and administrative staff within different sports bodies. He called on all sports federations to sign up for this event by reaching the Olympic Academy to benefit from the information and experiences that will be presented by the Canadian professor at the symposium, which focuses on sports planning – a fundamental pillar of all federations to fulfil their desired objectives.
