Three Silvers, One Bronze For Malaysia On 11th Day of Asian Games
JAKARTA, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent has a decent collection of three silver and one bronze medals on the 11th day of the 2018 Asian Games while failing to increase its gold medal haul.
The national silat squad contributed two silver medals via Mohd Fauzi Khalid in Putra Class F (70-75kg) and Mohd Khaizul Yaacob in the Putra Class J (90-95kg) at Padepokan Pencak Silat, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah.
The squad also contributed a bronze via the combination of Nor Hamizah Abu Hassan and Nur Syazreen Abdul Malik in women’s doubles.
The third silver came from the women’s 3m synchronised springboard diving event through Nur Dhabitah Sabri and Wendy Ng Yan Yeen who scored 298.23 points.
With the additional four medals, the national contingent has collected four gold, 11 silver and nine bronze medals since the Games began on Aug 19.
Malaysia’s earlier haul of four gold medals were through women’s bowling trio and men’s Master, women’s squash singles and men’s inter-regu sepak takraw; eight silvers were via equestrian (individual dressage), men’s bowling trio and women’s team, men’s sepak takraw (regu team) and women’s squash singles.
Three more silver medals were from silat Putra Class E (65-70kg) and Putra Class B (50-55kg) as well as men’s track cycling team sprint.
Malaysia also earlier bagged eight bronze medals contributed by taekwondo in women’s Poomsae individual, men’s singles squash and men’s karate-kumite under 60kg.
Five more bronze medals were through silat in the Putra Class C (55-60kg), Putra Class I (85-90kg) as well as the men’s doubles and men’s team compound in archery and women’s 10m synchronised platform.
In this regard, Asian Games defending champion, China maintained the top position in the medal tally with 102 gold, 67 silver and 50 bronze medals followed Japan (52-47-63), and South Korea in the third place with a collection 37-42-50.
The Malaysian contingent will continue to hunt for medals in several events among other track cycling, equestrian and diving on the 12th day of competition.
