Shias Staged Sit-in Against Target Killing Of Leader In Karachi

Islamabad, Nov 7, IRNA -- Shia youth staged a sit-in on Tuesday to protest the target killing of Shia leader in the port city of Karachi. Agha Aftab Haider Jafri was murdered along with another colleague namely Agha Shahid Ali while they were on way to their office on Tuesday morning. Youth have blocked the main M.A. Jinnah Road and raised slogans against the United States sponsored banned terrorist organizations Lashkar-e-Jhangvi/Sipah-e-Sahaba and their foreign masters including the United States. Angry youth were pressing the Shia leaders to chalk out a course of action against the genocide of Shia Muslims in Pakistan. They said that martyr Agha Agtab Haider Jafri was an asset of Shia Muslims. The Numaish area was reverberating with the slogans of Labbaik Ya Hussain (AS) and yes to martyrdom. Although Agha Aftab Haider was a deputy secretary general of the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Karachi chapter, he was equally owned by other Shia parties and groups. He remained an active official of Jafaria Alliance as well. Karachi is in the grip of target attacks, which have claimed many people in recent months. The Supreme Court said last week that the law enforcement agencies have failed to end such attacks. Interior Minister Rehman Malik, giving details about violence in Karachi told the parliament in September that a total of 1,363 people have lost their lives at the hands of target killers during the past five years. Giving a breakdown of the figure, Malik said that 104 people had been killed in year 2008, 160 in 2009, 373 in 2010, 478 in 2011 and 248 so far in 2012./end
