Abu Dhabi Jan 18, 2010 (WAM)- Abu Dhabi Police on Sunday launched a new environment-friendly vehicle, which will join its fleet of traffic cars within the
coming period according to a report in "Khaleej Times."
The launch of the vehicle coincides with the third meeting of the preparatory committee of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) hosted by Abu Dhabi. As many as 138 countries are taking part in
 the meeting.
“Introducing environment-friendly vehicles for service at the traffic patrols reflects the importance of relying on all forms of renewed energy, and reduce the rate of carbon emissions, all wastes and toxic emissions that are harmful to the ecology,” said Colonel Hamad Adeel Al Shamsi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at the Abu Dhabi Police.
“The new green car is a four-wheel drive Chevrolet Tahoe, which has been selected after an in-depth study, following up the technical development in the field of environment-friendly cars,” said Major Ahmed Salem Al Niadi, Head of Media and Public Relations Section at the Patrols and Traffic Department of the Abu Dhabi Police. The car, according to him, is characterised with use of latest technology and double energy supply system that includes fuel and electricity.
He said other features of the car are that it can be used in all missions, and it is not polluting the air, and does not emit gases such as carbon dioxide or other toxic gases. The green-car has been designed according to the specifications and conditions required for private sedans used by police patrols in terms of size, power of the engine, endurance and capacity, he noted.
It is painted with green colour on both sides of the body with Abu Dhabi Police emblem as well as white and red colours.
