Abu Dhabi all set to grow Children's book industry

Abu Dhabi, Jan 20, 2010 (WAM)- With the 20th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) less than seven weeks away the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and KITAB - the organisers of the book fair have unveiled plans to bring children's books closer to the community this year with a children's library all set to open in the Abu Dhabi Mall in 2010 and the launch of five mobile libraries to tour the emirate in 2010.
The Abu Dhabi National Library will also be looking to extensively purchase children's books at the forthcoming Abu Dhabi International book fair to equip the new library at the Abu Dhabi Mall and the mobile libraries in addition to the other forthcoming Mall Libraries that are envisaged as part of the emirate wide network of Libraries that is being developed by ADACH. This is positive news for regional and international publishers, according to the show's organisers, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) and KITAB, a joint venture between ADACH and the Frankfurt Book Fair.
A recent Abu Dhabi '&' Western region wide tour of a mobile library concept called the ‘KITAB Bus ' drew unprecedented interest from teachers and librarians and underscored the value of ADACH's decision to launch and stock five new vehicles to meet demand from local educational institutions.
The focus on young talent at the 20th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair includes the presence of upcoming authors from Europe and the United States, as well as a finale of the ‘Read Aloud' competition to create a buzz around books in 18 local schools.
Additional highlights include visiting authors from the Arab World, including internationally renowned writers from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and the United Arab Emirates; the shortlisted nominees for the 2010 International Prize for Arabic Fiction; and the winners of the next edition of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award.
The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2010 will run from 2 - 7 March and is preceded by the IPA Copyright Symposium from 28 February - 1 March. Publishers wishing to participate in this year's fair can register by 20 January 2010.
