UAE - RCA sends relief cargo to Haiti

Abu Dhabi, Jan 21, 2010 (WAM)- Acting upon the directives of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide support and assistance to the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti, a cargo plane carrying 45 tonnes of relief supplies and medicines has arrived in Haiti heading from Panama.
Another plane carrying 100 tonnes of relief supplies will leave Abu Dhabi tomorrow heading to the Dominican Republic and distribution will soon start in the devastated Haitian Capital Port Au Prince.
The relief cargo sent by UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA) will be distributed in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
An RCA relief team who arrived in the Dominican Republic yesterday has also kicked off the implementation of the field plan for the provision of relief supplies, which will be airlifted along the relief air bridge. The humanitarian efforts will join the ongoing programme of support and assistance to the earthquake victims in coordination with the International Federation and the Haitian Red Cross as well as other relief organisations on the ground.
