INDIAN MEDIA FORUM DONATES THOUSANDS OF DIRHAMS FOR EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS IN HAITI

DUBAI, Jan 27th, 2010 (WAM)--The Indian Media Forum (IMF), a grouping of media persons from India working in the UAE, has donated thousands of dirhams worth of clothing for children, food and medicine for the earthquake victims of Haiti.

Haitian government had made a passionate appeal to the world seeking food,
tents and medicines for the survival of 1.5 million people devastated by the
killer quake which left almost 120,000 dead and 800,000 homeless.

The IMF donation was handed over to the Dubai Red Crescent Authority office
at Rashidiya Wednesday at a function attended by RCA official Rashid Al
Junaibi, IMF President EM Ashraf, Vice President Albert Alex, other IMF
office-bearers and representatives of the sponsors of some of the donated
medicines, food and clothes.

Al Junaibi, who received the donation and shipment on behalf of Mohammed
Abdulla Al Zarouni, RCA director in Dubai, appreciated the kind gesture of
the UAE-based media-men to help thousands of victims subjected to extreme
difficult living conditions due to the natural calamity two weeks ago.

Accepting the donation, Al Junaibi lauded the effort of IMF members and
their donors, saying that it is the need of the hour. RCA branch in Dubai
had already dispatched two teams of volunteers to the country who are even
now stationed around 220 kames away from the nearest airport of Port-Au
Prince and overseeing the aid work.

"The first plane load of help carrying men, machinery and humanitarian help
from the RCA was dispatched immediately after the news of the devastation
reached the UAE. A second plane load was sent with 100 tonnes of essential
items the people needed badly for sustenance", Junaibi said.

It will send a third shipment of supplies which will carry the IMF
donations, he said. "We are receiving too many donations for the Haitian
people, so we may need another plane load to dispatch to that country," he
added.

Indian Media Forum President EM Ashraf said that the donors to the Haitian
victims included Fine Fair Garment Company that donated Dhs44, 000 worth of
children’s clothes, Dr Azad Moopan’s Group, Dr Sirajuddeen Medical Centre
and Al Gharafa Medical Centre, Ajman that donated emergency medicines and
IMF members who generally donated cash and kind for the human cause.

"We, during our collection drive, approached one of the leading garment
factories to get the clothes at a wholesale price. But surprisingly, the
owner of Fine fair Garments offered new clothes worth Dhs44, 000 as his
share of the goodwill gesture," Ashraf said. "Another surprise was awaiting
us as a medical group offered medicines worth Dhs10, 000 or more free of
cost," he said.

He also thanked all IMF members who generously donated their share. "What is
more important is that in this short span, we were able to mobilize these
things successfully and proved that we can do more to serve the humanity in
their tragic situations," he said.
