Abu Dhabi police foil smuggle attempt of over two million drug pills to a Gulf Country

Abu Dhabi, Feb 21, 2010 (WAM)- An Arab national, ironsmith, has been seized by Abu Dhabi police in Al Ain city, while attempting to smuggle over 2 million drug pills to a Gulf State. The accused had hidden about 2, 236, 985 drug pills in 10 sacks and a bag at a residence in Al Ain city as he was set to smuggle and sell them to a drug broker at the Gulf country.
The Abu Dhabi police foiled the attempt, which was described as "Bu Staif Drugs" in conjunction with the Patrol Control team of the Interior Ministry of the Gulf country, the final destiny of the intended drug smuggle.
Details of this international Trans border crime were disclosed recently by Lt. Col. Hamad Ahmed Al Hamadi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of Abu Dhabi Police. Al Hamadi said, "The vigilance of police has led to the arrest of accused and seizure of quantities of the drug", adding that the shipment was earlier smuggled into the UAE through a seaport. He added that the police had been tipped off that an Arab national identified as A.A.A, was planning to smuggle drug to a Gulf country.
When arrested the accused confessed and alleged that the shipment of drugs belongs to a relative, who is a resident in the Gulf country. He alleged he had received the shipment without knowing it was drugs.
