Lubna Al Qasimi stresses importance of adopting strategic methods to boost UAE trade globally

Abu Dhabi, Feb 21, 2010 (WAM)- UAE Foreign Trade Minister HE Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, has emphasised importance of adopting the latest strategic methods to update the trade position of the UAE to help it deal with challenges and changes at the regional and international markets.
She added that the Ministry of Foreign Trade (MoFT) got inspiration from the directives of wise leadership to upgrade the foreign trade in order to diversify the economy and highlight the UAE trade position and competitiveness through increasing the UAE exports, opening new markets and expanding flow of foreign investment.
The remarks were made in a meeting attended by the directors of different departments at the MoFT. During the meeting the results and strategic indicators of the MoFT in 2009, as well as the plans and developmental initiatives of 2010 were discussed.
Sheikha Lubna commended the efforts of different departments to realise the objectives and strategies, which could further boost the role of foreign trade and components of national economy.
The MoFT commenced in 2010 setting up comprehensive trade information database to enhance government efforts in the trade talks.
The net contribution of the UAE foreign trade to the GDP surged by 9.9 per cent from Dh76 billion in 2007 to Dh107billion up by 11.4 per cent in 2008. The percentage reflects vitality of this sector to the components of national economy.
