AIPU supports UAE over its islands occupied by Iran

Cairo, Feb 25, 2010 (WAM)- The Interim Arab Parliamentary Union (IAPU) has reiterated its support to UAE's sovereignty over its islands - Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa - occupied by Iran, and their territorial waters and airspace as they constitute the integral part of the United Arab Emirates.
This came in a letter received by Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) HE Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair yesterday from Dr. Huda Fathi Ben Amer, Speaker of the Arab Parliament.
The letter said that the Interim Arab Parliament at its second regular session, held at Arab League headquarters in Cairo from 23 to 28 last December, had discussed the issue of the three islands, and expressed regret for the lack of progress in contacts with Iran in order to reach a solution, which will contribute to the strengthening of security and stability in the region.
The letter spelt out AIPU's support to the efforts of the UAE to end the Iranian occupation of these islands through direct negotiations or recourse to the International Court of Justice.
