UAE, US are committed to stronger energy partnership
Abu Dhabi, Feb 25, 2010 (WAM)- The UAE is looking forward to maintain its close cooperation with US oil companies so as to tap their advanced technology and experiences especially in renewable energy, H.E. Mohammed bin Dhaen Al Hameli, Minister of Energy, said yesterday.
Highlighting the role of US firms in developing UAE oil and gas industry, the minister affirmed the UAE's sincere determination to diversify its energy sources from renewable and nuclear energy to achieve energy security in the long run as well as diversify its sustainable uses for long times.
Al Hameli made his remarks during talks yesterday with visiting US Secretary of Energy Steven Chu over prospects of joint cooperation in oil, gas and renewable energy as well as nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
“As a member of OPEC, the UAE is working to secure enough supplies to the world oil markets .......OPEC is also committed to dialogue and cooperation with other oil producers and consumers through the International Energy Agency (IEA) and World Energy Forum (WEF) to serve interests of both sides and bring about stability to the market,” he added.
According to him, OPEC member states are seriously seeking to achieve security of world demand for oil to generate feasible revenues so as to pump huge investment in boosting additional output capacity to satisfy growing demand for oil in future.
For his part, the US Energy Secretary affirmed commitment of the US and US-based international oil companies to pursue their cooperation with the UAE and its oil companies for developing the UAE energy industry under the umbrella of the distinguished bilateral relations.
The US minister said Washington's prime concern is the stability of the world oil markets and cooperation with countries in the region in energy fields including renewable energy.
