General Women's Union launches new website to mark the International Women's Day

Abu Dhabi, Mar 9, 2010 (WAM)- The General Women's Union (GWU) launched yesterday the new website to mark the International Women's Day, which corresponds with March 8.
HE Noura Al Suwaidi, Director of the (GWU), said the UAE national women have scored many successes due to support of the leadership and sustained backing from HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and Chairwoman for the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
Chinese Ambassador to UAE Gau Yusheng, who attended the event, referred to prestigious position enjoyed by the UAE national women, citing their huge contributions under sponsorship of Sheikha Fatima.
Ahlam Al Lamaki, deputy director of the (GWU), said that the UAE national women occupy 66 per cent of public jobs, 30 per cent of them are the leading jobs linked to the decision making, adding that they also occupy 15 per cent of the teaching staff of UAE University and 60 per cent of the technical jobs, including medicine, teaching, pharmacology, nursing. She added that the UAE national women are enrolled in the Armed Forces, Police and Customs.
She added that Emirati women constitute 9 out of 40 members of the Federal National Council, representing 22.5 per cent. The UAE national women are represented in the Cabinet with four. There are three Emirati women ambassadors in Sweden, Spain and China. They are also represented in the judiciary and public prosecution. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
