Sheikha Fatima calls for ending violence and discrimination against woman
Abu Dhabi, Mar 9, 2010 (WAM)- HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), called for enhancing the necessary measures for eliminating of all forms of violence and discrimination against woman.
Sheikha Fatima, also Chairperson of the UAE General Women's Union and Honorary President of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), stated on the occasion of the International Women's Day which falls on 8th March, that woman is still the victim of wars and conflicts worldwide, adding that although woman in the civilised societies obtained many of her political, social and economic rights, but she still lives in poverty, ignorance and isolations in the under-developed regions and hot spots in the world.
She pointed to the suffering of refugees and the displaced women in their camps that lack the basics needs of life.
She expressed her hope for expanding the umbrella of protection for the victims of catastrophes and crises, and voiced her concern over the tragic humanitarian conditions the woman is undergoing especially in Asia and Africa.
She added that woman is still facing severe violations to her human rights experiencing hardship in securing her basic needs.
She also stressed the importance of easing the sufferings of woman.
“We are looking forward to celebrating the International Women's Day and the woman has left behind forever the threats of poverty, hunger, disease and illiteracy” Sheikha Fatima said .
Sheikha Fatima praised the role the Emirati woman plays in the field of the charitable and humanitarian works and her great sacrifices for the sake of improving living conditions of the underprivileged.
She added that the Emirati woman has contributed effectively in efforts of supporting victims of wars and natural disasters worldwide.
