UAE contributes Dh1.75m towards International Civil Aviation Organisation

Abu Dhabi, March 14, 2010 (WAM)- The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced yesterday its support for the programmes of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) by donating CAD 500,000 (Dh1.75 million) to be used in ICAO programmes which aim at enhancing the levels of security and air safety in the civil aviation industry around the world.
Approved under a UAE Cabinet Decree, this grant comes under the UAE GCAA development programme of contributing towards development of operations and development programmes of civil aviation in Arab states as well as African and Latin American countries.
As a current member of the ICAO Council, the UAE has been able to accomplish a number of initiatives and occupy a prominent global position in international civil aviation. Through its membership to the ICAO Council and its various committees, the UAE has actively participated in international decision-making regarding civil aviation,” said Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi, Director General of GCAA.
“In line with its role in the civil aviation sector regionally and internationally, the UAE supports ICAO projects in order to enhance its various programmes aiming at the development of security, safety, and environmental protection in the civil aviation sector.” Al Suwaidi added.
The grant will be used for the development of air safety operations under ICAO programmes and for contributions by ICAO towards the preservation of the environment and development of search and rescue operations in South African countries under the supervision of ICAO.
