UAE is seeking dynamic role in knowledge-based economy: Ahmed

New Delhi - March 14, 2010 (WAM)- The UAE is not only an oil state but is also seeking to play an active and influential role in the knowledge-based economy which determines potentials for progress of nations and their economic prosperity, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chief Executive of the Emirates Airlines group said here yesterday.
“'Here education will have the pivotal role which the UAE makes its the core of its development plans and strategies at present and in the short and long run,'' Sheikh Ahmed said in a keynote address before the India Today Conclave 2010: New Decade; Great Expectations.
Sheikh Ahmed admitted that the new decade would experience substantial challenges which should be addressed and tackled properly as the UAE wise leadership has strived relentlessly to removes all obstacles hindering sustainable development plans and achieve high growth rates.
“Our economy has become diversified and viable without primarily depending on natural resources,'' Sheikh Ahmed added.
''We in the UAE take off from the vision of change and we don't deny that we are part of a globally well-knitted community meaning that we are not immune from being impacted by global changes and issues,'' Sheikh Ahmed said, adding that the international financial crisis has made the will and belief of the UAE people more stronger and capable of turning challenges and risks into feasible opportunities economically and socially.
On the distinguished, historic UAE-India bonds, Sheikh Ahmed said he was optimistic that bilateral relations in areas of trade, economy and investment would improve to the better.
On the sideline of the forum, Sheikh Ahmed met with Indian Interior minister Palaniappan Chidambaram and discussed the agenda and objectives of the event.
