Sheikha Fatima receives Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Scientific and Cultural Achievement Award
Abu Dhabi, March 14, 2010 (WAM) -Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation has honoured Mother of emirates HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak with the Scientific and Cultural Achievement Award in its 11th edition.
UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan received the award at a special ceremony on Thursday on behalf of Sheikh Fatima, Chairperson of the General Women's Union and Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation.
The ceremony held the Foundation's auditorium in Dubai was attended by HE Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, several prominent cultural personalities, senior state officials, diplomats and intellectuals from UAE and abroad.
A number of cultural and literary personalities were also honoured in the ceremony for their academic and literary contributions
In a speech delivered at the beginning of ceremony Dr. Gargash said: "We celebrate at this session a proven track record of the innovators of the Arab world who have won the Cultural '&' Scientific Achievements Awards. The winners are selected by the Board of Trustees in recognition and appreciation of efforts of those elite, who have devoted their lives in the service of culture and society and left their mark through positive and distinctive contribution".
He continued: "We are proud today for honouring the Mother of emirates Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, who symbolises our country with her valuable life in the service of humanity. Her services encompassed everyone at home and abroad and have been vital in helping children and empowering women".
In a citation the Board of Trustees of the Foundation made special mention of Sheikha Fatima's relentless efforts to promote women's role in the UAE and bring them to the leadership. It also mentioned Sheikha Fatima's struggle to combat violence against women worldwide.
