Chinese naval contingent arrives in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, March 25, 2010 (WAM)- A Chinese naval contingent has berthed at Port Zayed in Abu Dhabi starting the first ever visit of Chinese warships to the UAE. The Chinese warships which will berth for four days in Abu Dhabi are part of the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) contributions to intentional naval deployment in the Gulf of Aden to protect commercial ships and oil tankers from piracy.
Rear Admiral Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamdan Al-Nahyan, Deputy Commander of UAE Navy, Ambassador of China to UAE Gao Yusheng and Senior Colonel Teng Hong, Chinese Military Attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Abu Dhabi were at the reception ceremony.
Sheikh Saeed welcomed the contingent noting the outstanding defence and security relations with China.
For his part, Senior Captain Quu Yanpeng, the deputy chief of staff of the East Sea Fleet stressed that China's first naval visit to the UAE is a reflection of his country's growing relations with the UAE.
Yanpeng added that the friendly exchange between the two navies is an important component the UAE-Chinese bilateral relations, mutual understanding.
