Lubna Al Qasimi, Belgian Minister explore venues for expanding relations
Brussels - March 28, 2010 (WAM) - UAE Foreign Trade Minister H.E Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi and H.E Vincent Van Quickenborne, Belgian Minister of Enterprise and Streamlining, have discussed in Brussels venues for expanding trade and investment relations between the two countries.
Sheikha Lubna is in Belgian capital, Brussels, to take part in a gathering organised by the Arab-Belgium-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce under the theme "Sustainable Development, Diversification, Investment Opportunities in the UAE." The two sides also discussed ways to boost the flow of Belgian investments into the UAE economy in general and renewable energy sector in particular, as well as to enhance relations between business communities on the two countries.
In remarks at the meeting, Sheikh Lubna stressed that the UAE looks forward to sustain stronger and wider trade and investment exchange with Belgium through joint projects to the best interests of both countries.
The UAE minister noted that the UAE's highly diversified economy offers highly competitive investment opportunities to international and Belgian businesses in non-oil industries.
Many international companies have recently decreased their presence in international markets in favour of the UAE's economy which offers numerous business and investment incentives, according to H.E Sheikh Lubna.
She further stressed that the UAE is becoming more knowledge-and-innovation based economy to add yet another competitive advantage and capability to weather global changes and meet the demands of future developments.
Sheikha Lubna and the Belgian minister further discussed the investment opportunities in the UAE, the government's strategy and plans aimed at streamlining trade and inbound investments through new legislations and regulations that keep pace with changes in the global economy.
She urged Belgian businesses and investors to tap opportunities offered by the UAE economy and consider areas such as renewable energy, advanced and technology and industries.
For his part, the Belgian Minister expressed his country's interest in promoting cooperation with the UAE, which he said enjoys an outstanding economic and trade status both regionally and globally.
The Belgian official underscored the investment opportunities offered by both countries in order to enhance trade and economic relations as well as joint efforts to expand overall development.
MoFT officials present at the meetings were H.E Abdullah Ahmad Al-Saleh, Director General of Ministry of Foreign Trade (MoFT), H.E Mohammed Salim Al-Suwiadi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Belgium. A number of Belgian officials also attended the meeting.
