UAE diplomatic missions abroad offer assistance to 181 UAE stranded passengers
Abu Dhabi, April 22, 2010 (WAM)- UAE diplomatic missions in Europe have offered assistance to 181 stranded UAE passengers in European countries which closed their airspaces due to the volcanic ash clouds, a UAE Foreign Ministry official has announced. The UAE embassies abroad, he said, had provided those citizens with all necessary facilities, temporary visas, and train tickets to streamline their movement between European cities.
Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, Director General of Foreign Ministry, was commenting on reports by some media sections about slackening on the part of embassies abroad on assisting UAE stranded passengers in affected European countries.
According to him, the UAE diplomatic missions in European capitals had set up an around the clock operations room to follow up conditions of UAE citizens and facilitate their return home. He explained that those who were contacted and offered assistance stood at 181 of them 98 in London, 33 in Rome, 17 in Geneva, 8 Vienna, 10 in Munich, 14 in Paris and one case in Brussels.
“The Foreign Ministry is in frequent contact with embassies abroad to get assured of the safety and well being of citizens affected by flight disruptions in European airports," he affirmed.
