Etihad resumes services to the UK and Europe
Abu Dhabi, April 22, 2010 (WAM)- Etihad Airways has announced that all scheduled flights to Europe and the UK have resumed, subject to the airports in the region remaining open.
Etihad Chief Executive Officer, Mr James Hogan, said that while he welcomed the news from the UK and European authorities regarding the airspace clearance, the backlog of passengers and airport congestion would be significant.
"Etihad is now accepting passengers in all destinations who have a final destination in Europe or the UK, and we are doing everything possible to get them to their destination without delay," he said.
"While we plan to operate all flights this evening and tomorrow, passengers should not yet expect that their flight will run to schedule, so we encourage them to check our website or contact us on our dedicated 24 hour customer assistance lines." Mr Hogan said the airline anticipated that if the airspace remained open, Etihad would return to normal operations within approximately 24 hours, and its priority would then be to clear the backlog.
Mr Hogan said he appreciated the teamwork and outstanding support of the airline's partners in Abu Dhabi, including Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), and the airport police and immigration authorities, during this challenging period.
"Once restrictions were lifted, these authorities helped us fly our passengers to their destinations with minimal delay, and ensured guests in the emirate had the best possible experience while they were here," he said.
