UAE marks Earth Day
Abu Dhabi, April 22, 2010 (WAM)- The UAE will join the world community tomorrow in marking the Earth Day, which falls on 22nd April with a wake-up call to the increasing challenges and threats the earth plant is facing.
H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, stressed the need for mobilising global efforts to address these challenges and mitigate the negative impact of human activities on health and the environment.
Ina press release issued yesterday, the Minister said has made substantial efforts to raise environmental awareness among members of the public.
According to him, environment educational programmes had constituted a basic component in efforts towards conservation and protection of the environment and sustainability of its resources. He outlined local and international environmental initiatives launched by the UAE to elicit wider popular participation in issues like the climate change.
The minister called for a shift in behaviour and lifestyle towards the environment so as to reduce the high ecological print without comprising the prosperity standards.
