Dubai Customs seizes 1 kg of opium hidden in electronic device on transit flight from Asia to Europe
Dubai, April 28, 2010 (WAM)- Dubai Customs inspectors at Dubai Cargo Village seized one kilogram of opium which was hidden in an electronic device of a postal parcel on a transit flight coming from an Asian country and heading to a European country.
Details of the incident started when the cargo clearing agent presented the cargo documents to complete customs procedures for a postal parcel at Dubai Cargo Village. The Customs inspector there suspected the cargo as he noticed some lumpiness in it.
He then searched it manually and found four plastic bag-wrapped pieces which increased his doubts of narcotics. Hence, the K9- Dogs Squad was brought into the scene to check the cargo and have positively reacted as well as the Customs Mobile laboratory, which has been recalled, confirmed that it contained opium narcotics.
The seizure was transferred to the General Department of the Anti- Narcotics at the General Department of Dubai Police in-line with the ongoing coordination and cooperation between both sides. After that, the cargo was sent to the European country it was originally heading to. And the related information about it was communicated with the respective European authorities there.
The cargo was seized by the competent authorities of this European country and the owner of the cargo (Asian National) was arrested and charged with narcotics possession and trafficking offense.
