Athens - April 28, 2010 (WAM)- Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met here yesterday with Greek acting Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas and discussed with him bilateral relations and ways to enhance them.
Sheikh Abdullah and Droutsas signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
At the press conference held after the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah praised the progressive relations between the two countries, which culminated by the Greek President's visit to the UAE last January. "We in the UAE are witnessing progress in all fields, particularly the economic ones. We attach a great importance to our relations with Greece," Sheikh Abdullah said.
He added that the UAE was considered the second largest economy in the region and that the country is concerned with developing investments abroad.
Sheikh Abdullah indicated that he discussed with his Greek counterpart means of strengthening cooperation, especially in tourism, cultural and renewable energy fields. He expressed the hope that the two countries will soon ratify the agreement on avoidance of double taxation to speed up flow of joint investments.
He extended an invitation to the Greek Foreign minister to visit the UAE for signing an MoU on the formation of the UAE-Greece joint committee.
For his part, Droutsas welcomed Sheikh Abdullah's visit to Greece, describing as "a very important and a proof to the dynamic relations between the two countries and the mutual desire to develop them." He added that the MoU signed earlier today would pave the way for stronger cooperation through bilateral talks between officials and bolstering economic and commercial cooperation.
