Media players sign MoU for implementation of TAM
Abu Dhabi, May 2, 2010 (WAM)- The Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC), Sharjah Media Inc., Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) and the National Media Council (NMC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the launch of the TV Audience Measurement project (TAM).
The NMC and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) launched the TV Audience Measurement initiative as a critical step towards greater development of the UAE's media industry after a series of workshops and industry consultations.
Du, the integrated telecom service provider, has announced its support for the initiative which the federal cabinet passed and entrusted the NMC to implement it.
Under the MoU, a company will be licensed to undertake and manage the project, with the NMC and the TRA playing a regulatory role to ensure fairness and transparency and maintain top confidentially of information..
The ambitious project will offer a wide range of benefits such as providing, for the first time, accurate and reliable data of use to TV channels and advertisers to evaluate the effectiveness of their TV marketing strategies. It will advance advertisement planning in the UAE as one of the most vibrant media markets in the region.
The NMC and the TRA recognise the importance of implementing accurate measurement systems as a contribution to further increasing the growth in the media industry in a healthy and sustainable manner .The NMC and the TRA have been monitoring various efforts to introduce and implement credible TV Audience Measurement (TAM) in order to allow advertisers to get access to accurate data to prepare their media planning and to understand better the value of their space and what the viewers want to watch. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
