UAE and Solomon Islands establish diplomatic relations
New York - May 2, 2010 (WAM)- The United Arab Emirates and Solomon Islands have established diplomatic relations on ambassador level. Both countries signed a joint communiqué on Thursday 29th April 2010 at the UN headquarters establishing the diplomatic relations.
H.E. Ahmed Al-Jarman, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, signed the communiqué representing the government of UAE while H.E. Collin Beck, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative of Solomon Islands to the United Nations signed representing his country
The Communiqué said that guided by their mutual willingness to promote mutual understanding and strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, social, humanitarian, cultural and scientific areas based upon the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and the norms of international law; And Respecting the principles of equality among States, national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of other States; Have decided to establish diplomatic relations, at ambassadorial level, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of April 18, 1961, as of the date of the signing of this Joint Communiqué.
After the signing ceremony both ambassadors discussed joint relations between UAE and Solomon Islands in political, economic and cultural fields, and pondered over ways for bolstering them through mutual visits by officials and economic cooperation Solomon Islands is a country in Melanesia, east of Papua New Guinea, consisting of nearly one thousand islands. It covers a land mass of 28,400 square kilometres (10,965 sq mi). The capital, Honiara, is located on the island of Guadalcanal.
