Khalifa receives Palestinian President

Abu Dhabi, May 3, 2010 (WAM)- President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has reiterated support of the UAE to the efforts that could achieve permanent just peace in the region, and culminate with the Palestinian people setting up their legitimate sovereign State with Jerusalem as capital.
This came during the reception of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas by Sheikh Khalifa at Al Bateen Palace yesterday in presence of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of President in Western Region.
The UAE President stressed backing of the UAE to all efforts being exerted to reach national reconciliation among the Palestinian factions, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities regarding resumption of peace process in the region to achieve comprehensive just peace.
Sheikh Khalifa was briefed by the Palestinian President about non direct contacts between the Palestinians and Israelis, as well as on the Palestinian's stance and condition for the resumption of talks. He noted that the cessation of setting up colonies in the Palestinian territories, especially Jerusalem, is a stipulation for the resumption of talks.
Abbas also briefed Sheikh Khalifa about the latest developments on the Palestinian arena, citing the Israeli aggressions at Al Aqsa Mosque. He commended huge support of the UAE leadership, government and people to the struggle of Palestinian people to retrieve their legitimate right of setting up their sovereign country in the Palestinian territories. He underscored that the sustained support of the UAE to the Palestinian people has great effect in easing suffering on Palestinians in the occupied territories amid undue siege and repression.
