UAE-Kazakhstan joint committee meetings begin
Astana - May 10, 2010 (WAM)- The meetings of the UAE-Kazakhstan joint committee commenced here yesterday under the joint chairmanship of UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash and Kazakh Minister of Tourism '&' Sport Temirkhan Dosmukhanbetov.
In his speech, Gargash conveyed greetings of the UAE people to the people of Kazakhstan on the 65th anniversary of the Victory Day. He praised the strong ties of friendship between the two countries under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and President Nursultan A. Nazarbayev.
He said that the meetings represent an opportunity to explore further opportunities for joint investments, especially in the fields of energy, and to form a committee of experts to remove all barriers facing trade exchange. He added that trade between the two countries reached US$1.5 billion in 2008.
Gargash pointed out that UAE's International Petroleum Investments Company (IPIC) set up Al Falah Fund in Almaty in 2008 and that Mubadala also possesses stakes in one of Kazakhstan's leading companies.
For his part, Dosmukhanbetov welcomed the UAE delegation and lauded the progressive relations between the two countries.
The two sides discussed ways to boost cooperation and trade exchange. They also reviewed the legal framework for cooperation in investment and consular fields. They also finalized the legal framework for aid from UAE to Kazakhstan.
