UAE and Samoa set up diplomatic relations

New York - May 13, 2010 (WAM)- The United Arab Emirates and the Independent State of Samoa last night signed a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level.
H.E. Ahmed Al-Jarman, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations and H.E. Ali'ioaiga Feturi Elisaia, Permanent Representative of the Independent State of Samoa to the United Nations signed communiqué at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the State to the United Nations in New York.
The Joint Communiqué which was filed at the United Nations in Arabic, English and Samoan highlighted the willingness of the two countries to promote mutual understanding, strengthen, friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, social, humanitarian, cultural and scientific areas based upon the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and the norms of international law in addition to respecting the principles of equality among States, national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of other States.
The Communiqué also endorsed the establishment of diplomatic relations, at ambassadorial level, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations as of the date of the signing of this Joint Communiqué.
Following the signing ceremony, Al-Jarman and his Samoan Counterpart discussed the potentials for cooperation in the political, cultural and economic fields between the two countries and ways to develop and boost these cooperation relations through the exchange of visits and experiences and promote economic cooperation in various fields. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
