Abdullah meets Takatof volunteers at EXPO 2010
Shanghai - May 16, 2010 (WAM)- UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan has met with volunteers from Takatof, a social volunteering program affiliated with The Emirates Foundation, who are working at the at the UAE pavilion at the Expo 2010 Shanghai fair, being held in China.
At the meeting with the 20 male and female volunteers, Sheikh Abdullah expressed confidence that the UAE youth are capable of drawing attention of the rest of the world to the rapid growth and development taking place in their home country. He was briefed on the team's tasks which include representing the UAE, overseeing day-to-day activities at the pavilion, welcoming and interacting with thousands of visitors to the their country's pavilion which is supervised by the UAE's National Media Council, or NMC.
Takatof volunteers work at the UAE pavilion which occupies an area of 6000 square metres in the heart of the Expo site showcasing the prosperity, harmony, culture and innovativeness of the UAE to the world.
Sheikh Abdulla autographed a painting of the UAE pavilion which was presented to him by the team along with a shield bearing the logo of Expo Shanghai 2010.
Held under the theme "Better City, Better Life", Expo 2010 is the largest World Expo ever and is expected to attract 70 million visitors over a six-month period, May 1st to October 31st, 2010.
Takatof was established in Abu Dhabi in April 2007 to raise awareness of community needs, empower UAE individuals and encourage them to participate in specific volunteering opportunities promoting the concept of volunteering as the 'way of life'.
