Shanghai - May 16, 2010 (WAM)- Minister of Foreign Affairs H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan has visited the UAE pavilion at the current Expo 2010 being held in Shanghai, China.Sheikh Abdullah was accompanied by Minister of Labour and Chairman of the National Media Council (NMC) Saqr Ghobash, UAE Ambassador to China Ahmed Ali Al-Bitar, Head of Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abdullah Al-Musalli, UAE Consul General in Shanghai Nora Mohammed Juma', Chairman of Dubai Cultural Council Mohammed Al-Mur and others.
In remarks during the tour, Sheikh Abdullah stressed the interest of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in promoting the UAE's presence at international exhibitions to present the country's achievements.
"The UAE's participation at Expo 2010 reflects its strong interest in promoting relations with peoples of the world" as it provides a platform for building bridges between the UAE and the rest of the world.
Sheikh Abdullah expressed hopes the UAE pavilion at EXPO 2010 would further political, economic and cultural relations with China. He applauded the efforts of the National Media Council which organises and oversees the UAE pavilion at the international event using the state-of-the-art interactive digital audio-video technologies to raise the profile of the UAE in this global gathering.
"The UAE pavilion could bring across the message to its visitors that the UAE is the place where dreams come true and where ambitions know no limits," Sheikh Abdullah said.
Situated on largest plot size (6000 square meters) available to Expo participants, The Dunes, as the UAE pavilion has become known, has a footprint of 3452 square meters and encloses a total of approximately 3900 square meters of exhibition space, information areas, and other facilities.
Sheikh Abdullah then watched 3 short documentaries on the evolution and the rapid growth of the UAE in the past six decades. The documentaries show the unprecedented population and urban growth and the staggering pace of development that have shaped the identity of the UAE.
Later, Sheikh Abdullah, accompanied by other UAE officials, toured the pavilions of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar where he was accorded a warm welcome and briefed on the evolution of sister Gulf countries. Each Expo has a particular theme that must shape the country's participation. In the case of Expo 2010 it is ‘Better City Better Life'. The UAE's own narrative meshes particularly well with this theme.
