Dublin - May 25, 2010 (WAM)- The Abu Dhabi Irish Guineas Festival, held at the Curragh Racecourse in Ireland, concluded yesterday with a trophy presentation to the winner of the President of the UAE Cup Series race. HE Khalid Nasser Rashed Lootah, the UAE Ambassador to Ireland, presented trophy to Ms Haddock, owner of the winning horse, Nokomys , the day marked the launch of the 2010 race series for purebred Arabian horses.
Established in 1994 by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to promote and celebrate the Arabian horse globally, the President of the UAE Cup Series was the first international purebred Arabian horse race series, and today is still considered the premier racing series for the breed.
As the weekend title sponsor, UAE Ambassador also congratulated the owners of Canford Cliffs, the winning horse of the Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas thoroughbred horse race, ridden by Richard Hughes.
"This weekend was a successful start to the 2010 President of the UAE Cup Series," said Taleb Al Muhairi, General Secretary, Emirates Equestrian Federation. "Not only was the horse racing of a high quality, but with the participation of Office of the Brand of Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways and the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, the Series gave racing fans an opportunity to learn more about Abu Dhabi and the UAE." Abu Dhabi did more than bring its sunny and warm weather to Ireland over the weekend. Approximately 17,000 race goers had the chance to experience genuine Arabian hospitality and culture when they visited an impressive Bedouin tent in the Garden Enclosure, featuring a five-year old falcon bred for the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
In addition to offering Arabic coffee and dates, the tent showcased artists from the Abu Dhabi Women's Union who demonstrated the traditional crafts of the UAE including, palm weaving and wool weaving. Guests could also have their hands painted with henna, and their names written in calligraphy.
On display throughout the racecourse were the winning photos from the annual Abu Dhabi Through Your Eyes photo competition. A final highlight of the weekend was the opportunity to win a trip for two to Abu Dhabi.
