Abu Dhabi, May 26, 2010 (WAM)- The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) will carry out two shipments of humanitarian assistance to Gaza Strip in the coming two days via The Rafah Border Crossing in Egypt to support the humanitarian conditions there.
The relief convoy is being sent as per directives of UAE President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and with support from H.H. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and with a follow up from H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA).
This convoy will carry 700 tons of necessary food Stuff in addition to huge amounts of medical supplies at a total value of Dh3.500 million.
This assistance comes in line with the continued efforts UAE is making to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Palestine. It comes also as part of the RCA's ongoing relief and humanitarian programmes to improve living standards and support essential services in Gaza.
An RCA delegation led by Chairman of the Board Ahmed Humaid Al-Mazrouei will head to Cairo tomorrow to supervise and facilitate the crossing of the convoy into Gaza in coordination with the Palestinian Presidential Committee for Aid Supervision, the UAE Embassy in Cairo, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and its Egyptian counterpart and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Al-Mazrouei said this humanitarian shipment is the fourth to Gaza.
He affirmed the RCA's humanitarian programmes for the Gazans continue unabated despite the siege and closure of crossings thanks to the strong partnership and coordination with the UN and other international organisations operating in the Palestinian scene.
