SKMC marks 'World No Tobacco Day'
Abu Dhabi, May 27, 2010 (WAM)- Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) managed by Cleveland Clinic will mark the World No Tobacco Day on 27 '&' 28 May 2010. SKMC is part of the SEHA HealthSystem and is owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
SKMC supports annually the "World No Tobacco Day", an international health awareness event hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO). During the two-day campaign, a team from Preventive Cardiology '&' Cardiac Rehabilitation Division will be available in a special booth at Khalidiyah Mall, ground floor, from 6 pm - 9 pm to offer free testing for visitors by the Carbon Monoxide Smoke Analyzer and free counselling for smokers. Tobacco cessation educational documents will also be distributed along with screening questionnaires.
Research shows that those who consume tobacco are not the only ones exposed to the negative effects and that millions of people, including half the world's children are exposed to second-hand smoke or passive smoking. Quitting smoking has immediate and long term health benefits.
In line with the objectives of global stop smoking campaigns, SKMC embraced the UAE smoke free air laws in October 2007 and enforced a no smoking policy for every area in its entire campus - even the car park and for distances less than 100 meter from the campus to become the first smoke - free healthcare organization in the UAE. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
